Foraging
When you first move to the farm, Mayor Thomas advises you to search through the forest for items you can sell to earn a little bit of money. Searching for wild items on the ground is a quick way to supplement your farm income early in the game. The variety of items will change every season, and items will appear daily, whether you picked up the items from the day before or you left them on the ground. Sometime an item will reappear in the same spot the next day, but that's not a guarantee.
The wild items are generally in the same areas every day:
- The south forest area, where Gotts house is located
- Next to the hot spring and the goddess' waterfall
- Along the long hill path that leads to the summit of Mother's Hill
- The area south of the lake, where the bamboo thicket and Jennifer's tent are
- The meadow by the entrance to the summit, where Marie spends her Monday mornings
- The new secret forest area between the Southside and Northside areas in town
- On Mineral beach, typically against the west side or on the shoreline
- In the rear church forest that is protected by Carter
There won't be any wild items found on the summit of Mother's Hill all year long, or in Carter's church forest during Spring and Summer.
There is one spot by the lake on Mother's Hill that is only accessible by using a level 3 (gold) or higher Hammer to break the boulders blocking the path. During autumn, a single Matsutake can be found here. There is nothing beyond the bolder path the rest of the year.
The important wild items you want to keep an eye out for are Blue Grass and Green Grass, as shipping 50 of each of these will unlock Stamina Booster XL and Super Caffeine at Elly's clinic shop. Bamboo Shoots (spring), Chestnuts (autumn), and Mushrooms (autumn) are also used in a variety of cooking recipes. The recipe for Relax Tea Leaves requires 1 of every colored grass.
Black Grass cannot be found while foraging for wild goodies. This item comes from using the hoe on the floors of the mines.
Another way to find the wild colored grasses is to use your sickle on the fodder grass growing in your field. You may discover colored grasses based on the season that you currently are in. You can't find Black Grass or White Grass when cutting fodder grass.

The White Grass is hidden in the trees along the path from Gotts' house to Mother's Hill. White Grass can also be given as you throw gifts into the Harvest Goddess' pond.
