The naming scheme thread~ (easy way to help me out ^_^)

While creating my guide, my contributors have been very helpful. That said, everyone seems to have a different naming scheme and thus I want to create a more unified one for the purpose of the guide. I've already more or less equalized everything under my own naming scheme, but that seems a little draconian... so I wanted to get everyone's opinion on what would be "best".

For character names, I'm trying to keep everything as what the website calls them via their picture names. That's probably as close to an "official" english spelling as we'll get before Natsume gets it's hands on it so I won't bring them up. But place names are a different matter. As far as I know, there are no "official" english spellings for them yet.

Examples:

スチーム Steam
ウィズダム Wisdom
パンプキン Pumpkin
アルビアーナ Albana (the town's name)
スワロー Swallow

Most of those (aside from the Town's name) are english words and easy to extrapolate what word they are getting at... Other locations...

トリエステの森
ブレシア島
メッシナ谷
バドバ山

Come out to:
TORIESUTE forest
BURESSHIA island
MESSHINA valley
PADOBA mountain

Which aren't only hard to pronounce for a non-japanese speaker but generally hard to remember. The "engrishized" versions I've been using for my guide have been

Trieste (an actual place in NE Italy)
Blessia (gives a "sanctified" feeling that I think fits)
Messina (Japanese don't have an "si" sound, the "shi" just makes it feel wrong)
Padoba (has a mountainy feel I think <_<)

Other names I've seen for them:
Torieste Triesute
Bresshia Bressia
Messhina
Padorba Padba


So basically, I'm just trying to gather people's input on what would be best for a standard naming scheme. There are no right or wrong answers here.

I like the first three. ^^ It fits very nicely. The meanings sort of matches too.

I was wondering if you can change the last one to maybe Badorba or something. Badba doesn't sound quite as nice. ^^;

Ah! That it is. The pictures I had when I first started writing the guide were a little on the blurry side. Looking at the road sign in the game, it is indeed PADOBA

Padba or Padoba would both be suiting in that case, though it makes me think more of the latter.


Rune Factory universe is set in a sort of medieval western europe type setting. You don't see "shi" used a lot in the middle of words or names in such settings. Thus I'm more inclined to believe that Messina was the goal, though I'm always willing to give way to the majority consensus.
