If you don't pass the evaluation grandpa expands the field and then you just keep playing like normal. To be blunt it seems impossible to get 6 power berries in the first year because some only can be found after the expansion.Goldie wrote:Once grandpa evaluates the farm... if I didn't had the requeriments for passing the evaluation, what happens? Do I have to redo everything or just need to keep playing like normal?

If you meet his requirements another year he will give you one of the items.Katherine1973 wrote:And what about the things he's supposed to give you if you pass-fishing rod, pickaxe & umbrella? If you don't pass can you get them eventually or are you just outta luck?

Do you get to choose or is it random? And I'm hoping we do get a chance to get all 3 things. Not really caring about the umbrella, but I really want the fishing rod and pickaxe. I haven't gotten very far in the game yet because my work schedule changed, so I'm planning ahead for the worst.Usagi5678 wrote:If you meet his requirements another year he will give you one of the items.Katherine1973 wrote:And what about the things he's supposed to give you if you pass-fishing rod, pickaxe & umbrella? Growing old is mandatory. Growing UP is optional!!

You eventually get all the items. Here's how it goes
First year: Expansion, this is unavoidable.
Second Year: Expansion again, you can become a master from this year forward it requires planning to get it here, but it is possible.
Third Year: Umbrella
Fourth Year: Pickaxe
Fifth Year: Fishing Rod
This is the order, at any time if you become the ranch master you get nothing and the cycle continues next year when you're evaluated until you get everything. I don't remember the order of the last three items exactly, but I think this is it. Regardless, you won't miss anything from grandpa. He will give all the stuff to you, but you need to keep playing. For a perfect game you need to go through 6 years of in game time. Hope this helps!

To clarify, if you become a ranch master in the third year here's the prize order:
First year: Expansion, this is unavoidable.
Second Year: Expansion again
Third Year: Ranch Master, yay!
Fourth Year: Umbrella
Fifth Year: Pickaxe
Sixth Year: Fishing Rod
There's this idea that if you don't become a ranch master your farm is expanded. Your farm is expanded always in the first two years then you get items. I've done a perfect game challenge 3 times now because my save battery kept dying and I didn't have an external device to back up the data on until the last time. I can become a ranch master in the second year and my farm is expanded in the third year and so forth. Don't think you failed because your ranch is expanded like I did. It will always happen.
This is my favorite Harvest Moon, ask if you have any more questions, I'll be happy to help.

So I saw in the guide that you need to have four of each animal. Does that mean I have own four of them them at the time when Grandpa evaluates my farm? Or would previously owned cows count? I have four cows, and they're tedious to manage: pushing them out the door; they're always getting underfoot and the barn is so small anyways. If there's one thing that makes me wanna rage-quit, it's the cows. I'd like to get rid of three of them and just have one, but I don't know if that will make Grandpa happy.
