I just started another playthrough of A Wonderful Life (emulated NTSC GameCube release) for some nostalgia. I am surprised that in the 17 years since release, the gameplay mechanics still haven't been documented well. For example, how many days/hours/time cycles crops take to grow through their various phases, cow hybrid lists, crop fertilization requirements to reach higher grades, animal affection thresholds and what actions influence that to what degree, etcetera. I'm still reading the same Neoseeker .txt guides I was as a kid, which all seem to conflict with one another and are observation-based anecdotes. The wiki seems to reference those same guides. I could provide more specific examples, but I think most people have come across the same problem.
Sorry if this sounds like a rant, I'm not complaining; I'm loving playing it again and the mechanics have some intriguing mystery to them. I'm just wondering if there's some awesome guide somewhere I've overlooked, or if anyone much smarter than myself has cracked the game code to document game mechanics from primary source material.

If you aren't in it already, the harvest moon speed runner's discord likes to get into the knitty gritty on that. Although, for now they're mostly concerned about marriage speed runs and how to boost affection quickly and efficiently in Chapter 1, they do discover odd things and it's very interesting to read through if you're obsessed with the game. A Proud Life's discord also has data dumps to read through as the creator of the mod was sifting through the game to fix up the dialogue, swapping textures, and debugging the game.
No 100% fleshed out guides exist. It'll have to be someone's passion project to spell out the game mechanics in a way us simple folk can understand.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you for the reply!

The most in depth thing I've found is this... 10,000 (?) word document on the child mechanics
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gamecube/ ... faqs/31380
Its super beefy and the authors acknowledge that its mostly theories but its an interesting read nonetheless.
