Heart Events
Before you can marry your special person, you have several marriage requirements you need to complete. One of these requirements are heart events. Each marriage candidate has four heart events you need to trigger. If you don't see all four events, then you can't marry that person until you see the events.
Heart events become available when you reach the minimum heart color required for the event. If your person's heart color is higher than the required color, that is okay! Heart events need to be viewed in sequential order, so you can't skip to the last heart event without viewing the first one.

Heart events will not trigger on festival days. This includes the Gardening Show that takes place on the 11th of every season if you activate it.
This version of Harvest Moon has a new requirement for the last two heart events. In past versions you could see the heart events for all of the marriage candidates without impacting the other candidates. In A New Beginning you can see the black and purple events, but the green and yellow events are locked until you give your special someone a Ring.
The Ring can be bought from Hanna's shop for 30,000 G once you reach a purple heart color with one of the marriage candidates. You can buy more than one Ring if you want to, but there's no advantage to buying more than one. The Ring is a standard item that will always be for sale in her shop once you unlock it.
To give your dedication Ring to your marriage candidate, trigger the person's black and purple heart events and then have the person at a blue heart color or above. For Amir and Yuri, you are going to have to make your best guess as to whether they are at 20,000 FP or more because their heart colors are invisible.
Then you need to wait until Saturday or Sunday. The weather must be sunny; not rainy or snowy. Between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm, give the person your Ring to show your commitment. The two of you will travel to the Harvest Goddess' pond for the giving of the Ring. At that point, the two of you will be going steady and you can see the remaining heart events with that person. You can't see the heart events for the other candidates while you have a boyfriend or girlfriend.
For the Witch Princess, you can give a Ring between 2:00 pm and 3:00 am because she doesn't wake up until noon, and then between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm she is eating her lunch.
If you want to still see the other candidates' heart events, you will have to break up with your girlfriend or boyfriend! You can't simply give a Ring to someone else; that would be too easy. To sever your relationship, you must ignore your sweatheart for 31 days or more. If the person's heart color drops to a purple heart color or lower (below 20,000 FP) walk into his or her house to get a break-up scene. To verify that the person is at the required heart level, save your game before talking to your soon to be ex-partner, then reload your save game after you notice the heart color. After breaking up, you can give a Ring to another person and see that person's green and yellow heart events.
