Balance of Power
Part 1
Ok well hmm how to start mabey this should be at the end? I dunno
but anyway this is at the start. Anyway I've been writing stuff
for a while now well not much I've only really rediscovered it.
Anyway
man Terranigma is such a brilliant game man if only I
could go back to "The good old Days" and help work on
Terranigma. Ac! Wait that's not the point. Me? I'm just another
guy (a rather nice guy) trying to bring some happiness to some
Terranigma fans I guess. My real name Isn't important all you
need to know is that I'm Zedric Inverse © in this place (the
internet) and that's it. Ok well here we go. First before I start
(finally)
Man in the distance: GET ON WITH IT!
Zed: Shut it! It's my fanfic
Anyway my keyboard needs
fixing because the "e" key isn't working all that well
so if an "e" is missing then it's the keyboards fault
ok? Good. Thanks to Secret of Mana for an idea or two (Ac! No I
still worship Terranigma I mean come on
Think of the sound
track?)
Ok here it goes
.
Prologue
This story is set in a world built around the eight elements.
Each element is worshiped by the people in the different temples
scattered about the world. The people in charge or this are the
High Priests and Priestess'. The world is calm the elements are
satisfied with things. The Black Library © still stands shining
in the moonlight high atop the whistling cliffs of wind. This
hallowed place (The Library not the cliffs) is a place where all
the elements converge. The only place in the world where this
phenomenon occurs. As a result this place is protected by the
elements (or is it just because the knowledge of the entire
universe including that of the elements themselves is stored
here?) and their fury. No one knows what happens in there except
those who work there themselves and even they have been sworn to
secrecy. There is also another group. The Wandering Exodus Dragon
Knights. Nomadic knights who ride huge Dragons. Fierce warriors
but only when necessary. Much like the Dragons themselves. They
hardly had any contact with people at all and if they did then it
would be brief. Feared by all that think about fight them, looked
up to by those they protect. Anyway this world is different from
our own in lots of ways which you will discover as we go along.
The Ark and Elle and other characters are not set in the
Terranigma realm but one similar.
<The Girl slowly opens her eyes awakening to a blurred
distorted image that vaguely looks like some ones face>
Blurred face: Hey
You're awake..
The girl (Elle): Wha.. What happened? Where am I?
<She feels a dull pulsing pain in her head. She try's to move
her arm to put her hand on her head but finds that her body is
weak. Slowly the face comes back into focus and she relaxes and
falls back into the boy's arms>
The boy (Ark): Shh don't try to move you've had a bit of an
accident. You fell out of the tree and hit your head. I was
worried you'd hurt yourself badly.
Elle: No I think I'm ok Ark, thanks for staying with me. Ouch..
My head really hurts.
<Clutches at her head only to feel a rather large lump forming
at the place where the pain seemed to be coming from>
Ark: <Chuckles a little> I'm not surprised come on lets get
you back to bed.
<He picked her up in his arms and slowly (but steadily)
started to take her back to the village. Elle's head was still
hurting and she had only a vague memory of what was happening.
She remembered looking up at the blue sky and seeing Ark holding
her in his arms
the sun shining lightly down upon her, the
cool breeze and chirruping of a bird calling to its mate from
somewhere, the gentle flow of the stream Ark had stopped at to
fetch some water for her from its cool refreshing innards. Elle
could remember much after that mainly because she passed out a
few times. In her unconsciousness she tried to think back to what
had happened but in vein. When she finally she was starring up at
the wooden rafters of what looked like her house but she couldn't
be sure. She groaned and felt the dull thumping pain return to
her but this time not as intense. And something cold and wet was
stroking her head>
Ark: Hey so your awake at last. <The cold wet thing was a
flannel (soaked in water) which Ark was using to keep her
cool>
Elle: <Slowly tries to move her self upright but finds her
body still too weak to move>Oh err what happened?
Ark: You fell out of that tree you always sit in. I told you it
wasn't all that safe but you wouldn't listen. <Sigh> I
suppose this was bound to happen sooner or later but at least you
safe so I suppose that good enough for me. < He gently smiles
at her. Brushing the hair out of her eyes and patting her
forehead with the flannel>
Ark: I'll be back in a minute ok
I'm just gonna go and get
you something to drink. You must be thirsty.
<She hadn't noticed it until then but she was extremely
thirsty. Her throat felt dry and rough. She wondered how long
she'd been unconscious. Turning to look at the calendar she
noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Peering through
the window was something rather peculiarly. As she starred at it
the thing blinked at her through its huge beady black eyes. She
blinked back at it. Everything seemed to disappear except the
window and the creature on the other side of it. She forgot about
her pain and everything else as well and just starred at the
creature>
Ark: Elle? Elle what's wrong?
<She snapped out of her trance and looked towards Ark>
Elle: There's something strange at the window. <They both
turned to look at it but nothing was there just a window with the
sky behind it>
Elle: But I... There was something there I saw it.
<Ark looked worried and put his hand on her forehead>
Ark: Hmm.. ::mumble:: She hasn't got a fever. Mabey it was real?
No it can't be ::mumble::
Elle: Ark what's wrong?
Ark: Oh nothing don't worry about it. <He put on a smile but
Elle could tell he was faking it. He didn't believe her mabey he
thought she had hit her head a bit to hard>
Elle: I'm not making this up its true. I know what I saw and what
I saw was real!
Ark: Ok calm down
I believe you. Hush now; try to get some
rest your still very weak. <He touches her head and gives her
a funny looking smile before leaving the room>
Elle:<Sigh> Mabey it was my imagination. <She looked
towards the window once again. To her surprise, the thing was
back. This time she looked at it closely, sketching the image of
it in her mind.
It was a very strange thing. I looked like a bat but it was white
with huge deep black eyes or mabey it wasn't she couldn't see it
all that well through the window. Then there was a girl's face in
the window next to the bat thing. She was slightly taken a back
at the arrival of this new face. But somehow she felt that she
knew that face. As she watched again the girl in the window
beckoned her to come closer. Elle found her body moving almost on
its own towards the window. She opened the window and the two
things came into the room. The girl appeared to be not much older
than she was (about 20) but somehow she thought that it wasn't
the case. She was dressed in a long white dress covering
everything from the neck down. She had shimmering blond hair left
on its own and was about waist hight>
Elle: Who
Who are you?
Girl: Me? Well I'm the High Priestess of Light Luminar, I'm sure
you'll remember me if you think back hard enough.
Narrator:[From time to time I'll just pop in to help with the
pronunciation of some of the names. Luminar (Loo-mean-are)]
Elle: I think I do remember but I can't remember when it seems
too long ago. But that's why I'm not afraid of you because
somehow I know your a friend
Luminar: Aww that's sweet I'm glad you think so. But anyway do
you know why I'm here?
Elle: Err I haven't been Good?
Luminar: Hahaha that's a good sense of humour you've got there
but no. I'm here about something far more important. You see this
Creature her? <Luminar pointed to the Bat thing, which was
sitting of the floor eating a moth that, had just happened to
have flown by>
Elle: Yes
what is it?
Luminar: That is the Spirit of light but look at his eyes.
Elle: They're totally black.
Luminar: Exactly. When something goes wrong the balance of things
shifts this is one of the effects. No doubt the others have seen
this as well.
Elle: But what does this have to do with me?
Luminar: I'm sorry to say this but you are the cause.
Elle: What? <Elle is taken right back by this comment>
Luminar: You are the cause of this shift. When you feel from the
Tree the blow to your head should have been fatal and in actual
fact it was.
Elle: So
I'm dead?
Luminar: No, at least not yet. You see when you fell you hit your
head and fractured you skull. You brain had severe concussion and
that killed you. You were dead but your friend Ark was there. It
was his love for you brought you back.
Elle: Ark
loves me?
Luminar: Yes and it was his love that brought you back. Your life
has disturbed the balance and it must be fixed before other
things happen. What you see in the bat is just a just a grain of
sand on the beach of things to come.
Elle: Why me though? People love each other but that doesn't
bring them back. Why me what did I do?
Luminar: Calm down you'll just make yourself worse. Out of all
the people in the world you where brought back because you have a
special connection to this world. So do some of the others of
this planet. You must find out what that connection is on your
own and help fix the fault in the balance. Elle you will be able
to do it I promise
<Luminar put Elle back to bed at gave her a little sip of a
potion from a horn flask container>
Luminar: When you are strong enough come to the Temple of Light.
There I shall help you on your journey. Until then
rest
<Luminar kisses her gently on the forehead before
leaving though the window again. The Bat Creature jumps up onto
the Table next to Elle's bed and looks at her with those huge
black eyes. She looked into them and saw the very soul of this
thing. She saw the white fire glowing in its eyes. It truly was
the spirit of light. Then something incredibly strange happened.
In those eye she saw the reflection of a beautiful white flower
standing there alone
Under a spotlight but she couldn't see
the thing that produced the light. It was just there. As she
looked the flower began to shed its petals onto the ground. The
image slowly faded away and the bat blinked and flew out through
the window>
Elle:
<Elle found herself drifting off to sleep and
dreaming a wonderful dream. She was walking in a Temple, The
Temple of Light. She looked around and there were people there
that she had never seen and people that she had
there was
Luminar and that Bat creature all in white. There was a man
talking to her. Dressed in a black material, a large black Cloak
and the most wondrous hair. Midnight blue in colour and long
enough to just touch the floor. It blew gently in the wind as he
was talking. A large Black Panther was sitting by his side its
tail swishing back and forth.
Elle looked around the rest of the room. There was only one other
person in the room, a pretty looking young girl who looked about
18 sitting all on her own on the edge of the fountain. She was
wearing an interesting green outfit and was playing with what
seemed to be a small green bag. As Elle looked closer though she
discovered that it wasn't a bag, but a small Green elf very
similar to the white bat creature but without the wings. It was
enjoying playing with the girls finger, letting its self be
stroked by it, chasing it, hiding from it, putting it in its tiny
mouth and trying to suck it like a baby suck its mothers breast.
The Girl laughed at the tiny thing trying to suckle her finger,
and out of the corner of her eye she noticed Elle. She saw that
Elle was watching her and moved quickly away behind one of the
pillars. Elle wondered if she had done something wrong. The girl
certainly seemed to be very timid and shy of contact with other
people.
Just then the door opened and 5 more people walked in all talking
between themselves. They all walked over to where Luminar and the
man were talking, the two groups greeted each other. The Elle saw
Luminar talking to another woman and pointing towards her
The woman walked towards Elle and smiled at her. She was an
attractive woman of about 22 or 23 with a kindness about her that
Elle had never felt before>
Friendly Woman: Excuse me my dear but have you seen a girl about
your age wearing green?
Elle: Yes I have she went over there behind the pillar
Friendly Woman: Thank you dear
Elle: Um
did I upset her?
Friendly Woman: Oh heavens no, she's just a bit shy that all. By
the way, I'm Luna and its very nice to meet you even though this
is just a dream.
<She smiled at her again before walking off towards the pillar
which the younger girl had hurried away to>
Elle: I wonder who that girl was? Hmm mabey I should wake up now
<Whilst saying this a walking tree bearing rock fruits in its
leafs walked past her>
Rock Tree: Yeah mabey you should this dream is getting too weird
for me. I mean I'm seeing some soft fleshy thing on two legs
talking to me, I mean come on that's just crazy! <The creature
walks out of the Temple and disappears in a puff of smoke>
Elle: Mabey I should tell Luminar I'm going.
<She walks over to where Luminar is talking>
Elle: Err Umm Excuse me Ms. Luminar I'd like to go now please.
Luminar: Certainly child <Luminar smile sweetly at her and
pats her on the hand>
By the way please call me Luminar. <Before Elle could reply
the scenery disappears and she found herself waking from her
dream. She looked at the clock next to her. It was 2 a.m>
Elle:
But it felt so real
<She turned over and tried to go back to sleep. Some was
bothering her though
she could have sworn that there was a
figure perched in the tree outside watching her
>
This story was written by me Zedric Inverse
Wow that's a lot of pages. I hope enjoy reading it as much as I
had writing it. But now the credits
Thanks to:
Secret of Mana for giving me the idea of the eight elements
The Terranigma staff for their great game for which otherwise
this story couldn't have been written.
The Terranigma staff again this time for such a great sound track
which I was listening to whilst writing this
All Saints for their music which I was also listening to
Survivor for the Original Eye of the Tiger song
Cherubae for allowing me to put this on the site
I think that's all
A Glimpse into the future
Elle blinked and it had vanished
Everything was deathly
quiet
nothing moved, nothing sounded except the constant
du-dumb-du-dumb of her heart beating fast
Not even the wind dared move or even make a sound
something
in the house creaked
a door being opened and the creaking
of the hinges sent a chill down her spine and made all the hairs
on the back of her neck stand on end
The door closed and again there was silence. She listened hard,
listened to the dark not knowing what she was listening for just
listening
A floorboard creaked and a very soft footstep was heard. But so
minute that she only just heard it before it disappear again.
Something was moving through the house something very stealthy,
something very quiet
she heard another creaking floorboard
it was almost outside her room!
The door slowly opened creaking a little on the
hinges
something or someone very large was standing there
looking into the room
