Terranigma - Destiny of the Hero
by Panthees
Chapter 2 - The Beginning
-=WE WANT THE END DAMMIT!!! THE END!!!
The airship descended through the air on it's death dive, it's speed increasing by the second. The bombs that had been planted had wiped out the computers, the brains of the ship, and now there was no escape - in a few minutes they would both be dead.
-=Then that would mean this fanfic’s end, no?
They had sacrificed their lives for the hero, and now they would die together. Fair enough. They had fallen in love with each other, and they'd die together in order to save the world. It was a dignified way to die.
-=Better than to die in the deep frier at McDonald’s…
He held her close to him, preparing for the imminent.
"I love you." He said.
She held him closer and returned the sacred words. "I love you too."
He stroked her face tenderly and smiled. This woman had changed his entire life, turned it upside down. Not long ago, he was nothing but an uncaring mercenary, money being the only thing that mattered.
-=But money IS the only thing that matters!
Look at him now. Sacrificing his life with the woman he loved to save the planet
-=Save the planet… FFVII anyone?
that used to mean nothing to him. The ground was close now, it was only a matter of seconds before...
She looked up at him and sensed his fear. Pulling him closer, they kissed with all the compassion that powerful love brings. Then the airship crashed.
It lay there on the ground, smoke bellowing out of every crack it had. There was a second of complete silence, before the explosion rocked the earth it lay on. Somehow, he still had some life left in him.
-=WHAT? Let me quote some Weird Al lyrics for that one. From Albuquerque: "And we went through a tailspin and crashed into a hillside and the
plane exploded into a giant fireball and everybody DIED! Except for me!"
He opened his eyes, and groggily looked around. His eyes scanned desperately around the wreckage, before he caught a glimpse of her in the corner of his eye. She wasn't moving.
"Fyda..."
There was no answer. He reached his arm out towards her, hoping beyond hope that she would reach back. But she was dead, and he knew this.
-=Then why did he reach?
His breathing became slower and slower, until it suddenly stopped altogether. His vision flitted out and his heart stopped beating, then he died.
-=THE END
"Royd.... Royd, wake up !"
He felt the hand stroking his long blue flowing hair out of his face, it filled him with warmth. Slowly, he opened his eyes and focused on the woman sitting next to him.
"Morning, honey. You were having another bad dream, I thought it would be best to wake you."
He sat up and yawned.
"Thanks Fyd. I had the nightmare again. Always the same."
-=There’s that naked Irish man chasing me, then Elton John arrives and chucks cans of root beer at him.
Royd stood up and looked at the paradise around him. It had been a year since the crash, and he was still having nightmares about the whole incident. By all rights they should both be dead, they were, after all, both killed in the crash.
-=… THEN DIE ALREADY AND LET THE STORY END!
Yet for some reason which neither of them knew, they had woke up a few days later in Sanctuar, home of all bird life. Their bodies had healed, not even a scratch was to be seen on them. Of course, they didn't have the faintest of ideas why they were still alive, but fate had given them a second chance at life, and they weren't going to complain.
-=Who would?
So they lived in blissful ignorance together, in a secluded, heavenly area.

Ark and Yomi reached the port after ten minutes of solid walking.
-=Then they did some liquid walking
They stopped on the harbour, Ark glanced at Yomi.
"What are you looking at me for ?" it asked.
"I'm looking at your small fat form of a body..." Ark said, "and I'm guessing you don't have any Gems."
Yomi clicked. "Ah. Good point. Guess we're gonna have to sneak on board."
"Become stowaways ?"
-=Like you never did that before!
"Sure. We'll wait till it's dark, then sneak into one of the empty cabins. By the time we're found, it'll be too late to turn the ship around. It'll be easy."
-=Maybe it’ll be too late to turn the ship around, bu they can still throw you overboard
"That's easy for you to say, you can disappear whenever you want to." Ark whispered as a sailor walked past the bush they were hiding in.
"Stop being a baby. We don't have any alternatives." Yomi mocked.
-=Yes you do: Let the hole thing go and finish the story
"Listen, you fat lump of goo, I'm not being a baby, I'm just nervous. I've never done anything like this before."
-=WHAT? EVERY RPG hero did that at least once in their lives…
"Just leave it to me."
And the conversation was left at that.
*****
The deer chewed happily on it's grassy meal, unaware of the lethal danger it was in right now.
-=NOW I’m being interested! There’s a deer chewing on it’s grassy meal!
It had not noticed the man hiding behind the bushes near to it, with a hand-made bow and arrow in his hands. It took another clump of grass in it's mouth. Perfect. This would be the perfect time to make his move. Slowly and silently, the figure pulled back the string and aimed. Over the years, Royd had perfected the art of hunting, after all it was necessary for them to eat.
-=Oh, he could have easily eaten the whole bird kingdom, but that wouldn’t have been any fun now, would it!
He waited until the shot felt right, as judging by the aim wasn't enough.
It felt right. Royd breathed out and the deer stopped eating and looked towards Royd. It made no effort to get away, it just stood still and looked sadly at him, as if it knew what was about to happen. Royd hesitated for a second, then prepared to release the string.
"Aaaaaargh..." Royd suddenly crippled over, his stomach a blazing inferno of pain. The deer needed no second invitation,
-=He jumped on Royd and offered him Pepto-Bismol!
and escaped deep into the forest as the arrow flew up into the sky.
Royd dropped to his knees, breathing slowly and deeply, trying to soothe the agony. It wasn't the first time he'd experienced this feeling, it had happened a couple of times in the last few months. He hadn't told Fyda, not wanting to worry her with what her thought was just indigestion. The pain was getting worse each time it happened, as if he had something growing inside of him that sometimes needed to make it's presence known.
-=It’s Alien all over again!
He lay there for a few hours, just clutching his stomach, the pain made it unbearable to even think about moving. The pain eventually died down. Royd hadn't noticed it happening, but somehow it was night time. He slowly stood up, and limped back to Sanctuar.
*****
This was the perfect chance. The sailor was sleeping, and there was no other life around. Ark ran out from hiding, and made his way onto the boat, without making any noise. Yomi floated along side him, noise wasn't an issue he had to deal with. Ark opened the door to the sleeping cabins, the door creaked noisily in the eerie silence of night. Cursing himself, Ark quickly checked to make sure it hadn't woken the sailor. Luckily, it hadn't. Ark began to turn back towards the door, but something made him stop.
-=He noticed an issue of Playboy in the sailor’s hands
He turned back and looked at the sailor and studied him carefully, knowing there was something he was overlooking.
"What are you waiting for ?" Yomi whispered, "Get in the damn cabin !"
Ark put his hand up, letting Yomi know he should pipe down.
It was then that Ark noticed the blood. There was a small stain of blood on the sailor's shoulder, the rest was gushing down the front of his shirt. At first, Ark had dismissed it as merely being a shadow, but after watching it for a while, he knew it was moving, and he knew it was blood. The sailor wasn't asleep, he was dead. Murdered. A panic entered Ark, aware that he was in some kind of danger. He was so busy with worry, he didn't notice that the boat was drifting away from the port. When he did, he could do nothing about it. His eyes darted from left to right, trying to find the cause of all this mayhem, but he couldn't see anything.
-=It was night and he had sunglasses on.
He spun round when he heard a noise behind him, it was Yomi disappearing.
"Coward..." Ark whispered. Then he was alone. Unarmed, alone and drifting out into the unknown waters.
Suddenly, Ark was propelled forward, pushed painfully in the back. He flew through the air and smashed into some barrels that had been filled with supplies. Ark got too his feet quickly and scoured the deck. There was nothing there.
"Show yourself !" Ark shouted.
-=Guy who hit Ark: Count to 100 and search for me!
He heard a noise behind him, so turned sharply to face it. This turned out to be a mistake, as soon as he turned he was hit once more in the back, sending him overboard. His hand grabbed hold of the edge, and he hung there for a moment, above the waters that were increasing in viciousness by the second. A storm was brewing. Climbing back into the boat was top of Ark's agenda, so he did just that, putting the pain aside so he could use his energy to pull himself back onto the boat.
Ark was dazed from the impact of both the blows. "How can I fight something I can't see ?" he thought. The sound of the water crashing against the side of the ship was almost deafening now. It was hard to keep balance at all, let alone with something he couldn't even see attacking him. A thin layer of water now covered the deck, and was raising slightly by the second.
There was a flash of light that Ark mistakingly assumed was lightning. Yomi appeared in the night sky, a good 20 feet above the ship and looked around for Ark.
-=It’s a bird! It’s a plane! NO! It’s Super Yomi!
Yomi saw him standing by the edge of the boat, he was soaking wet and looked dazed.
"Ark, up here !"
Ark looked up to where the voice came from, breathing heavily, and saw Yomi a good way above him. The clouds above him started to move, forming a hole in the sky which filled with light. Suddenly, there was another flash of light and Ark saw something moving speedily from the hole. It was falling closer and closer to him, then it landed inches away from where he was standing. Ark smiled for the first time in quite a while as he recognised the bold, shining weapon that was sticking into the wooden deck. It was the Hero Pike, a weapon used by heroes of the past. This was the legendary weapon which he had used to kill Dark Gaia. Ark grabbed hold of it, the mystical weapon had a powerful aura that filled Ark with power and courage. It was as if all the heroes who once wielded this weapon were lending their powers to Ark.
-=Doesn’t that sound corny to you?
The sky was filled with a deep, evil laugh as Ark's invisible opponent made his next move. One of the broken barrels that Ark had landed on previously raised itself into the air and flew at him with tremendous speed. But Ark was ready. He jumped into the air, avoiding the barrel that landed were he stood seconds ago, and fosbury flipped
-=Wha? Fosbury flipped???
backwards. His feet arced through the sky, his eyes scanned the origin of the barrel. Then he saw it, two dips in the water that covered the boat. The monsters footprints. It's location revealed, Ark, still in mid-air, drew back his arm then threw the Hero Pike towards where the body must be. A piercing noise was then heard, the sound of something cutting through the air.
Then there was silence.
-=’Cause the fanfic ended?
*****
It was a bright, sunny day in the bustling city of Freedom. The villagers wandered around happily, unaware that the city they loved so much had once been a metropolis of skyscrapers, and electronic gadgets.
-=Like Furbies and plastic chewtoys
Light Gaia had restored this city to it's original form for one solitary reason : evolution was evil.
-=What?! You dissing Keinz?
As the city had grown, mankind started to care less of other people, more concerned with their own meaningless lives. There was a plague spreading it's bacteria over the world,
-=The plague that was Pokemon!
and the plague was greed. People no longer lived for friendships and equality, they simply yearned for money and power. And with each technological breakthrough, the bacteria increased in strength.
After Dark Gaia had apparently been defeated, Light Gaia had set about undoing all the wrongs that his evil doppelganger had once spread throughout the world. Evolution had been one of these.
-=Light Gaia, think about this for a minute: If there wasn’t any evolution, you’d still be watching over a world of microbes and microscopic thingies.
It was tricky to undo this, even if he had just changed the city back to normal, the people in it would still have the knowledge of how their city was like. So Light Gaia reversed time. He reversed people's memories back to when they lived in the city's original state, that way they would have no knowledge of what had happened to their city. People lived in blissful ignorance of what had once been.
One year passed.
-=And the fanfic ended
Still, peace reigned throughout the world. Towns and cities remained the same, with Dark Gaia gone nobody cared about making technological advances because nobody cared about money. But Dark Gaia had been given time to revive some of his lost energy. Knowing that the hero would come to stop his revival, Dark Gaia used every ounce of energy he had revived to send out three spirits into the world. These spirits chose three ordinary people, and possessed them, devouring their souls to make room for themselves. Their mission was simple, they were to stop the hero from finding the orb carriers, giving them the name of 'Guardians of the soul'. Each had been given a special power, to increase the likelihood of success. Tusk had been given unimaginable strength, his body had been covered with an invulnerable substance, making him invincible to attack.
-=But he had one weakness: Being hit over the head with a raw goldfish
Jackal was given unmatchable speed and agility, killing him wasn't the hard part, catching him was.
-=That’s why you had to buy Nike running shoes. BUY NIKE! (I hope I get paid for this!)
Finally there was Shadow. Shadow had the ability of being able to become invisible at will, the only thing that was visible to the human eye was his shadow, other than that he was impossible to see.
-=Well, that;s obvious if he’s invisible! OF COURSE you aren’t gonna see him!
