Today Marvelous updated their official HM: The Island Grows With You
site with descriptions of new characters that are to appear in the DS
game. 

Mark - (hero) A boy with a positive personality
Chelsea - (heroine) An energetic girl who's always aware of the
people around her
Natalie - The young daughter who was swept up on the island with you.
She is a little rude.
Eric - The brother of Natalie. He is polite and timid.
Chen - A gentle man who (with his son) moved to the island after
hearing a rumor that people were living on it again.
Julia - She runs an animal shop with her mother.
Maseru - Julia's mother. She is carefree and isn't bashful.

The only thing they are advertising so far as "new" are the rice
crops. You can see screenshots of the golden grass on their official
site.

At Tokyo Game Show last month there wasn't much announced. The Wii
version was in video-form only, but at MMV's panel the boxart for the
DS2 game had a big, blue, Nintendo WIFI logo on it, so it's safe to
say that this DS game will be going through the official Nintendo
network. No details were given though as to what you can actually do
through Wifi. 

The DS2 game is still set for December in Japan. Other then that,
things are really slow news-wise. There's been no word from Natsume
if Rune Factory is going to be localized, but Rising Star (EU) has
announced they are hoping to release it at the beginning of next
year.
