When you have reached the bottom of the 4th mine, go back into the Excavation Site when Flora and Carter are inside. Carter is excited that you had made it all the way down to the bottom, but is disappointed to hear that none of his ancestors were down there.
Suddenly the Goddess will appear and Carter asks if there truly is an ancient civilization in the mines, and if he is descended from them. The Goddess leaves for a moment and returns, stating that there is nothing of the sort found at the site and Carter is just a commoner.
After the Goddess leaves, Carter begins to doubt her words. What his ancestors wrote must be true and he's going to continue to work at the excavation site.
