Lost Valley Release Day! | Posted at 08:24 AM 04 November 2014So, today is the big day! Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley is officially for sale in the America region. The retail price for the game is $29.99 (plus tax if applicable), and can be purchased at stores or from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The digital version of the game is the same price and requires 635 blocks of SD card space. I've was lucky enough to receive an early release of the game, so I had some time to play it last farm'n weekend. The game runs smooth, the camera is improved from the E3 build, and in general, it is a very happy and cheerful game. It has a relaxed pace to it, so you can take as long as you want to go through the mystery of the ongoing winter season. I haven't run across anything that requires items from specific seasons like Mr.Dunhill's plans from Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, especially since you can apparently grow all crops regardless of the season you're in; the crops just grow better in specific seasons. One of the things I've been enjoying is the ability to completely mutilate the terrain. There's was a bump on a hill that I got tired of having to walk around on my way to the Goddess' Spring, so I spent the time cutting down the trees and I flattened it out. Screw you little bumpy hill, you're not so tough now! Now there's enough space to plant crops there if I wanted to. Of the characters I've unlocked so far, I am rather fond of the eccentric Doc and his strange posing. He is quite a bit like Daryl from Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, but Doc actually has his inventions for sale. He acts like the Saibara or Gannon of the Lost Valley, so you'll want to take some interest in him if you want to unlock the dresser used to change your clothes and hair style, and house features such as carpet, wallpaper, and drapes. Something that I have had a hiccup with is with the contextual tools. Sometimes when watering my crops, I don't notice I haven't moved my target box to the next spot, and the tool tip switches from "Water" to "Fertilize." So, I tend to fertilize crops that I might not of wanted to use my precious plant food on. You can use either the circle pad to move the target box, or you can use the directional pad to move the target box north/south/east/west of where you're standing. As long as I pay attention to the tool tip, I can conserve my Fertilizer for the plants I want to use it on. The Ushi guide for the game is very basic at the moment, since I'm only in Summer. I'm sure that my progress will soon be surpassed by farmers who have more free time ;) No worries though, as the message forum will be populating with player questions within the next few days.
