Post E3 Info Lull | Posted at 05:33 PM 20 June 2014
Happy Friday! Things are settling back down to normal in the farming simulation world now that E3 is over. Both Story of Seasons and The Lost Valley were at the show. At XSeed's booth there were a few stations that had an English demo of the latest Bokujou Monogatari game. It wasn't a very long demo; you did some basic crop care, brushed an animal, changed your clothes (as Elise demanded, since she claimed that "you stink!"), and visited the Trade Depot. There were some English changes that made their way back to the non-E3 attendees, which didn't always go positively in XSeed's way; mainly a few character name updates and the change of the currency from "G" to "¢". After some feedback, XSeed reverted some of their changes so that Mistel and Lillie retain their Japanese names (although I will miss Lyla...), and the currency is back to "G". Over in the other hall at the Natsume booth, there were several stations set up for Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley. The game is still in development, but a sample copy was available for attendees to try, which ended after a few days of in-game play. Playing the game is quite a bit different than simply staring at unanimated screen shots, and it seems that many attendees who played the game enjoyed what they tried. Even I thought it was a bit of fun, where I had to build a soil staircase of sorts to reach the top of a hill, and ran around digging up dirt, talking to villagers, and chopping down trees. The field area is quite large, which the crops and barns in one area and the farmhouse in another. Both games should be a lot of fun for veteran fans and new fans to farming games. Two are better than one! Neither game has a set release date though, so now we simply have to sit back and wait for those involved to take their time with polishing their programs. Since we've two full featured farming games coming up, the Story of Seasons info has been moved to fogu.com/sos1 and the Lost Valley info has taken over the fogu.com/hm12 section. Looks like I'll be busy for quite a long time. I tried to persuade the rep at the XSeed both to make a 2015 release for Story of Seasons, but I don't think she was convinced. Drat! - Cher
