Rival Farmers in HM:CTW |
Posted at 05:59 PM 28 March 2014Happy Friday! I figured today I'd explain how the rival farmer system works in
Harvest Moon: Connect to a New World.
There are 10 fields outside of your farm that are available. Each one has a specific purpose and can be used to grow things faster than if they were growing on your own farm, or do some other things that you
can't do on your farm. These fields are:
- Beehut and Mushroom Logs (You can't do this on your own farm)
- Flower Field
- Tall Crop Field
- Tea Field
- Fruit Tree Field
- Grain Field
- Water Paddy Field (You can't do this on your own farm)
- Root Vegetable Field
- Leafy Vegetable Field
- Spice Field
When you eventually get access to the rivalry fields, your beginning challenge will grant you access to the Root Vegetable Field. The remaining fields will be occupied for a set period of time. You can visit the guild and talk to Veronica to see the remaining number of days that each rival farmer will be using the field. When the time is up, you can go to the guild and challenge the dominant farmer for the right to use the field. The winner will be the one who wins the next festival, the one who earns the most profit in the next few days, or the one who ships the most goods in the next few days; you choose the competition. Sometimes you might think the contest is between you and the rival farmer, but another farmer might show up during the initiation to challenge the
both of you.
When the contest is complete, Veronica will announce the winner. If it is you, then you can now use that field. This not permanent though, as your dominance of the field might get challenged in the future by another farmer! If you don't win the challenge contest to keep control of your field, you will lose your access to the field. What happens when you lose control mid season? You lose the crops you were growing.
There's no slacking off in this version of Harvest Moon!
Fun fact: Media Create reports that the game has sold over 186,000 copies in Japan since its release at the end of February.
